Ed’s accomplishments in his first term

Dear Friends,

I love this town, and I love this job. I ignore social media sensationalism and run a drama-free local government through old fashioned hard work. If you’re looking for entertainment from your elected officials, I’m not your guy.

My running mates are Andre Sorrentino for Highway Superintendent, Dr. Dave Bennardo, and Greg Grizopoulos for Town Council.

Huntington is thriving by every measurement. Taxes are as low as possible, we stopped over-development and made Town government work more efficiently for you. The budget remains under the tax cap for the 8th consecutive year with an operating surplus. Moody’s and Fitch both maintain a Triple-A bond rating for Huntington. The Town has a zero fiscal stress score by the NYS Comptroller. Most importantly, town taxes are only 7% of your total real estate tax bill.

Real estate values remain high and the economic outlook for Huntington is very strong. Recent national recognition of Huntington as one of the most prosperous towns in the country reflects the fact that people with the resources to live anywhere are choosing Huntington.

Your parks are well maintained despite record use by residents and sports leagues. New facilities and playgrounds can be found in Heckscher Park, Al Walker Park, Otsego Park and Depot Road Parks, just to name a few. Expanding green space within the Town has been a priority. I have worked in a bipartisan fashion with our state and county representatives to secure millions of dollars in grants for environmental preservation efforts and infrastructure improvements.

The Highway Department, led by Andre Sorrentino, has paved record lane-miles (more than doubling the previous record) and scraped over 200 recharge basins (sumps) that have been neglected for decades. A new fleet of garbage trucks has made collection and recycling far more efficient, with less vehicle down-time. We continue rebuilding the Town’s infrastructure and fleet of heavy equipment.

Beaches have never been cleaner because of pollution control, minimized surface runoff, and increased aquaculture programs growing oyster beds and sugar kelp. Managing our precious waterways and water sources has been a priority since day 1 and I will continue to do so throughout my next term.

Same-day permitting is now possible online. The affordable housing prioritizes volunteer firefighters and EMTs by putting them at the top of the waiting list. This helps fire departments recruit new volunteers and retain veterans. We support working men and women through jobsite safety and apprentice program requirements.

Huntington is the cultural epicenter of Long Island. The newly formed Office of Film & Television is wildly successful. There have been many small and mid-sized productions in Town. This spring, Steven Spielberg filmed a scene for a major motion picture, demonstrating our ability to handle major productions. Production companies provide significant fee revenue and economic benefits to the local economy.

We look forward to the re-development of an economically viable, walkable downtown in Melville. The plan replaces vacant office buildings, squatters, property crimes, and tax grievances with a thriving social and cultural center for Melville. The plan provides residential options for young graduates and senior citizens alike to stay in Huntington.

The focus of our next term is excellent customer service throughout Town Hall. We are currently training new Citizens Advocates to answer all inquiries. Residents will be able to get immediate answers without a telephone run-around. This is being paired with a new user-friendly website. Our proven track-record of success demonstrates our ability to deliver for you.

Please vote for me, Andre Sorrentino, Dr. Dave Bennardo, and Greg Grizopoulos on November 4, 2025. I look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail. For more information, please contact me at ElectEdSmyth@Gmail.com. Thank you!

All the best,

Edmund J. Smyth
